Our evolution

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital’s history dates back to the last days of the 19th century when, thanks to the foresight and determination of a group of dedicated women, a facility for children with disabilities and chronic illnesses opened on Avenue Road in Toronto.

As it evolved, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital underwent significant changes through the generations, with many locations and name changes along the way. What hasn’t changed, though, is the support of a caring and compassionate community whose contributions have helped create a world-class hospital with a vision to create “a world of possibility."
