Black History Month at Holland Bloorview

A message from Holland Bloorview’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equality and Accessibility (IDEA) Task Force

February is Black History Month. Throughout the month ahead we will be amplifying Black voices in the Holland Bloorview community. The tone of our participation will be both celebratory and reflective. We feel it is important to acknowledge the immense contributions of Black Canadians to this country over the past 400 years, and to our community here at Holland Bloorview, but equally important to look at what we can do to further racial and social justice in the work we do each day. 2020 was a year marked not only by the global pandemic, but by the awakening of so many non-Black communities to the realities of the Black experience. It is our collective responsibility to keep the dialogue going.

What to watch out for this month:

This work is led and overseen by IDEA task force co-chairs, Aman Sium, director, client and family integrated care and Meenu Sikand, executive lead, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Webinar on anti-racism

We hosted a webinar on anti-racism, presenting on topics including white supremacy, intersectionality, the effect of racist structures and practices on Black peoples, Indigenous peoples, and people of colour, and how to advocate for anti-racist practices. View a recording of the webinar here.
