Holland Bloorview launches 2nd annual fundraising campaign Capes for Kids

TORONTO, ON (March 5, 2018) – Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital (Holland Bloorview) today launched the second annual fundraising campaign Capes for Kids to support kids with disabilities and their families. The campaign runs from March 5-11, 2018.

With a fundraising goal of $525,000, Holland Bloorview is asking the public to don superhero capes and raise money to support kids with disabilities and their families, while sparking important dialogue about disability and inclusion. Last year, Holland Bloorview exceeded its goal of $300,000 through the support of generous donors and funded critical hospital programs and research such as cutting edge technology and impactful programs and services that lead to the most meaningful and healthy futures for all children, youth and families.

What makes Capes for Kids truly unique and impactful is that it’s more than what you might associate with a typical fundraiser,” says Sandra Hawken, President and CEO of the Holland Bloorview Foundation. “Everyone can participate by joining alongside Capes for Kids superheroes and wear their capes from March 5 – 11, while supporting a more inclusive world for kids with disabilities.”

Holland Bloorview client and ambassador Abby couldn’t agree more. Abby’s parents, Beth and Chris, are the fundraising forces behind their Capes for Kids team.

“Participating in Capes for Kids was an easy decision for us. Abby has grown and progressed in ways that just wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the programs, services and dedicated staff at Holland Bloorview,” says Beth, the captain of their Capes for Kids fundraising team. “When Abby walks through the doors of Holland Bloorview, she is seen for her abilities and her potential; for all of the things she CAN do. For this reason, she feels brave and strong even in the face of challenges. What more could we ask for?”

The public can register to participate at CapesforKids.ca, fundraise and wear a cape during the week of March 5 – 11, 2018. Capes for Kids was made possible through the generous support of donors, including major sponsors Lego®, Bank of Montreal (BMO), Metroland Media, Fabricland and TD Bank Group.
