Ontario funding – Post-Secondary Education

Aird Scholarship

  • Scholarship to assist students with physical disabilities to study fulltime at a recognized Ontario postsecondary institution.
  • Award to encourage a special talent or lifelong interest.
  • Two scholarships in the amount of $2500 granted each year.
  • Selection based on demonstration of outstanding achievement, motivation and initiative.

Bursary for Students with Disabilities

  • Provides financial assistance to full and part time students to help with the additional costs of attending a postsecondary education institution, incurred because of a disability

Eligibility criteria:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident and an Ontario resident.
  • Have applied and is eligible for a Canada – Ontario Integrated Student Loan as a full time student.
  • Have applied and is eligible for a Part-Time Canada Student Loan as a part - time student.
  • Have a permanent disability.
  • Have additional education related expenses resulting from your disability and are not covered by another agency.

Canada Study Grant for Students with Permanent Disability

  • Provides a non repayable financial assistance to students to help meet costs of equipment and supplies related to their participation in postsecondary education which is incurred because of a disability.
  • Students may receive up to $8000 per loan year.
  • Applications must be received by December 31 of the student’s current academic year.

Canada Study Grant for High Need Students with Permanent Disabilities

  • Applicants may receive up to $2000 per loan year to meet education (tuition, books supplies) and costs.
  • Applications must be received by December 31 of the student’s current academic year.

Eligibility:

  • High need, full-time students with permanent disabilities.

Canada Study Grant for High Need, Part-Time Students

Eligibility:

  • Postsecondary students with a permanent disability taking part-time studies (20 – 30 % of a full course load).

How to apply:

  • Applications forms are available from the financial aid offices at Ontario universities and Colleges of applied arts and technology of the Student Support Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
CCRW Youth Scholarship Program for Students with Disabilities

Eligibility:

To be considered, scholarship applicants must

  • Be a person with a long-term and reoccurring disability,which restricts the ability of a person to perform the activities necessary to participate in educational activities. This limitation is expected to remain with the person for life.
  • Be a high school student entering the first year of studies in a Canadian post-secondary institution, recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada at the undergraduate level.
  • Be a full-time student (vs part-time).
  • Not be involved in the selection process or be a close family member of any scholarship selection committee member.
  • Not have received one of these CCRW Scholarships in the past. Scholarships are not renewable, one time payment only.

The Maurice Izzard Memorial Award

  • Award of $1000 to student with a physical disability, who will attend college, university or other postsecondary school institution.
  • Award is administered through the Bloorview School Authority.

  • Include a letter if introduction with information about disability, future education plans and goals.
  • Include a letter of support (from a teacher, counselor, employer, physician).
