Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural 2011 Pursuit Award under the category of Natural Sciences and Engineering.
Funded by Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation donors David and Anne Ward and the Bloorview Research Institute, the Pursuit Award aims to recognize PhD students around the globe for their outstanding achievements in childhood disability research.
“The research undertaken by the three Pursuit Award finalists was extremely interesting, thought provoking and clinically relevant for the clients of Holland Bloorview and the wider clinical community,” says Virginia Wright, Interim Director, Bloorview Research Institute. “The future of childhood disability research is highly dependant on new ideas and innovations and we feel it’s very important to encourage the work of PhD students and to bring together young minds to share their ideas and stimulate discussion.”
The top three nominees were chosen by the selection committee based on significance of research results, methodologic rigour, empirical content, and impact on childhood disability care. At a special symposium on May 31, 2011 they presented their work to the selection committee and were awarded first, second and third prize at the event. Guest Judge and speaker, Dr. Tamie Salter, Researcher, Université de Sherbrooke and President, Que Innovations Lab presented her work in rehabilitation robotics.
The 2012 Pursuit Award category is health research. Holland Bloorview will begin accepting submissions early next winter.
