Dr. Colin Macarthur, director of the Bloorview Research Institute and vice-president, research at Bloorview Kids Rehab, has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Bloorview Childrens Hospital Foundation Chair in Paediatric Rehabilitation.
Colin is known the world over for his research on childhood injury prevention and common pediatric problems. Because of his reputation for important, relevant research that has practical utility, Colin is a sought-after mentor and academic supervisor. To date, he has supervised 24 Master of Science students and two PhD students. His trainees have collectively won 28 research awards!
With almost 100 peer-reviewed publications and a significant CIHR team grant, Colin has an international reputation for research in the area of childhood injury prevention.
Since taking the helm as director of the Bloorview Research Institute in 2004, Colin has made significant strides; securing endowed funds for summer students and graduate students and developing a seed grant competition for innovative research. He has also created a clinician-investigator program and attracted significant funding to bring new technologies to market. Last, he spearheaded a multi-million dollar partnership for national research on childhood disability with CIHR.
As holder of one of Bloorview’s new chairs, there’s no doubt that he will continue to forge new endeavors that will bring Bloorview’s research agenda into the spotlight.
