News: Reaching Consensus for a Pediatric Rehabilitation Research Agenda

In November 2006, the Bloorview Research Institute, Bloorview Childrens Hospital Foundation and the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health and Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis hosted a consensus workshop on pediatric rehabilitation.

Experts in pediatric rehabilitation were invited to the workshop to share their views on defining national research priorities in pediatric rehabilitation. They discussed ideas for a future agenda in pediatric rehabilitation research, while tackling the challenges and opportunities faced by researchers in the field. Workshop participants also addressed funding in order to determine which funding vehicle would best fit the needs of the research community.

Recommendations from the workshop will help inform the strategic investment of the Bloorview Childrens Hospital Foundation’s $1.5 million national grant and CIHR ’s matching funds to support research in childhood disability. The vehicles for distributing the new research funds and a new Request for Application will be announced in June 2007.
