Under the umbrella of Participation and Inclusion, Therapeutic Recreation and Life Skills provides recreation, life skills and community development programs and services responsive to the needs identified by children, youth and families of Bloorview Kids Rehab.
Therapeutic Recreation and Life Skills uses recreational activities and experiences to maintain and improve health and quality of life for children and youth with disabilities.
Structured to support clients and families during important transition points, Therapeutic Recreation and Life Skills programs and services are guided by the developmental approach, promoting life skills so that clients learn to function optimally within their home and community environments.
Experience-based life skills programs teach skills using discussion, role playing, problem-solving, peer teaching and experiential learning techniques. Acquired skills are practiced in a simulated and/or real environment where calculated risk is encouraged.
