Our clients also benefit from the efforts of our research and engineering departments and our state-of-the-art labs.
For example, we are currently striving to provide clients with innovative components and control systems for powered upper extremity prosthetics. By working closely with the Bloorview Research Institute’s scientists and engineers, we are experimenting with a silicone fitted, myoelectric prosthesis.
The client trial is now underway to research the use of soft flexible silicone sleeves embedded with sensors that activate the client’s myoelectric hand as in Harnessing the murmur of muscles. Our test-client has experienced superior comfort, improved ease with donning and doffing, and greater confidence when using her hand in everyday living. We are continuing to work towards the day when this kind of innovation can be offered to all of our clients.
Other advancements include a prosthetic knee joint specially designed for highly active children and youth as illustrated in Smoothing the way for William. As well, many clients enjoy their favourite sports and recreational activities using our one-of-a-kind adapted devices for hockey, weightlifting, baseball and golf.
Your device will be carefully manufactured in our amazing facility to minimize the wait between consultation and your receipt of the new device. We also have a fully equipped machine shop for fabricating one-of-a-kind devices.
