Bloorview joins with SickKids to extend pediatric expertise to Qatar
Bloorview Kids Rehab is pleased to announce an exciting development in our global leadership in the field of childhood disability. Bloorview is joining SickKids in a partnership that will bring our knowledge and expertise in children’s rehab and complex continuing care (CCC) to the Middle East.
On Sunday, February 7th, SickKids officially announced its partnership with the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in Doha, Qatar to create a brand new, state-of-the-art children’s hospital set to open in 2011. To support HMC in building a children’s hospital that offers the full range of pediatric medical services, SickKids has partnered with Bloorview to enlist our expertise in rehab and CCC.

SickKids was selected from among leading healthcare organizations to provide advisory services for the development and operation of the new 217-bed, 45,000-square foot facility. Bloorview joins SickKids to assist in developing hospital services for children who are chronically ventilated, as well as help to build rehab capacity as an important element of the continuum of care for children with congenital or acquired disabilities.
“We are thrilled about the opportunity to partner with SickKids to ensure that the first dedicated children’s hospital in the Middle East is equipped to provide leading-edge care for children with disabilities,” says Sheila Jarvis, president and CEO of Bloorview Kids Rehab. “We are heartened to see our expertise and innovations being recognized and shared elsewhere in the world.”
This partnership, which will run until 2014, will see Bloorview staff travel to Qatar to share our knowledge and expertise. Bloorview participation in this project will not take away from the work we do here at home. Staff who participate in this project will be backfilled while they are away, through funding from this project.
