Disability Research: Sally Lindsay Awarded SSHRC Grant

Sally LindsayCongratulations to Sally Lindsay, Carolyn Mcdougall, Shauna Kingsnorth, Tracey Adams, Robyn Sanform and Dolly Menna-Dack, who have been awarded a significant grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) for their study of employment readiness and skills gaps among adolescents with and without disabilities. This research project aims to first identify what skills employers are looking for in their ideal candidate in entry-level positions, and then develop mock employment exercises where they will observe differences in skill between youth with and without disabilities. "Our goal is to feed these results back into our Life Skills programs at Holland Bloorview to provide our clients with greater opportunities to become part of the Canadian work force," said Sally Lindsay, principAL investigator and Scientist at the Bloorview Research Institute.

Lindsay will be conducting this research in collaboration with Holland Bloorview's Life Skills Institute, which includes services designed to help young adults with disabilities to lead healthy active lives, and make a successful transfer TO adulthood.

Holland Bloorview is thrilled to have received this grant and we look forward to applying the results of this study to improve the quality of programming we provide to our clients. Congratulations everyone and thank you for all your hard work!
