Bloorview is thrilled to announce that Bill and Susanne Holland have donated $26.2 million to Bloorview! In recognition of this unprecedented gift, our name is now the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
Bloorview Kids Rehab and Bloorview Kids Foundation are thrilled to announce an unprecedented donation for the field of childhood disability. Philanthropists, Bill and Susanne Holland have donated $20 million to Bloorview. This is in addition to the $6.2 million they have already donated – for a total contribution of $26.2 million to Bloorview. This represents the largest donation to a childhood disability charity in Canada.
We are extremely honoured that Bill and Susanne Holland have chosen to invest in our organization. In recognition of Bill and Susanne’s support for Bloorview, we will be adding their name to ours. Our new name will be the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and the Foundation’s name will be the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation.
This gift will allow us to recruit world-class physicians, therapists and scientists, with an initial focus in the area of children’s brain injury. It will also fund a family leadership program that will see parents and youth work alongside clinicians to improve hospital care, train future health-care professionals, and support families.
Like every organization, we always want to do more and do better. This gift gives us the means to do that, in a way that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.
A donation of this size is unprecedented for Bloorview and it is very significant for the field of childhood disability - especially during a time of financial constraint in the health-care field. Bloorview is the best positioned organization to lead childhood disability care, research and teaching in Canada.
“Bloorview is an amazing, unique institution…and one that clearly works,” said Bill Holland, CEO of CI Financial Corporation. “The health-care professionals and volunteers are deeply passionate and committed to giving children with disabilities the treatments and supports they need to participate fully in life. When you make a contribution to a place like Bloorview and you get a letter from the mother of a child who was helped in a significant way, it’s the greatest feeling,” Holland says.
The Holland gift officially launches Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation’s No Limits Campaign for childhood disability, with a goal of raising $80 million for the hospital. Investments will be made to recruit international research and clinical talent in the specialized area of childhood disability; train the next generation of health leaders; improve critical family resources and supports; and commercialize proven breakthrough treatments.
