Filmpossible fête

filmpossibe fete to honour 2011 winners

On Wednesday, November 16, filmpossible and the family resource centre partnered to bring an exciting day of events to our hospital community.  Beginning at 3 p.m., the family resource centre hosted an open house café, inviting staff, clients, families and friends to learn more about the information and supports available in our Grocery Foundation Resource Centre and health sciences library. Then at 5 p.m., we rolled out the red carpet for the filmpossible fête to celebrate the winners and entrants in filmpossible 2011, our summer-long online video and photo contest created to bring visibility to disability.

Holland Bloorview’s 2011 filmpossible fête extravaganza was complete with popcorn, feathered boas and a red carpet. This very well-attended event was organized to celebrate filmpossible’s fabulous sponsors, entrants, judges and all those who make filmpossible, well, possible!
Prize winners from this year’s contest had their photos and videos showcased on the big screen and were invited to the stage to share their experience bringing visibility to disability.

From 69 entries, eight judges and thousands of votes, this year’s contest turned up some very talented winners. Denise Wilson of Erin, ON who claimed top prize for her video As long as its healthy, and Annya Miller of Toronto who took first place in the photo category for Lucky fin love.   Denise Wilson was recognized by filmpossible judge, Pat Ellingson from TVO.  The adorable stars of the photo Lucky fin love, Gabi and Gavin, accepted the photo prize (on behalf of Annya Miller) and were honoured by filmpossible judge, Christian Potenza, a popular cartoon voice actor.

Willa Black, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility at Cisco, was on-hand at the fête to recognize Jennifer Warman, with the Cisco visibility award for the wonderful video I can be me! The Cisco visibility award is given to the entrant who best embodies the spirit of bringing visibility to disability and raising the profile of childhood disability by getting the most round 1 votes. "I was delighted to be invited and very pleased with the success of filmpossible as a great awareness builder," said Willa Black.

All filmpossible fête attendees took home special calendar giveaways featuring this year’s 12 contest finalists. Stay tuned for upcoming information about filmpossible 2012!
