Stories: EmployABLE event held at Bloorview

Bloorview was host to EmployABLE, an employment awareness event for young people with disabilities on November 7, 2008.

The event gave youth aged 14-35 the opportunity to network with employers, have their resumes reviewed, listen to speakers, and meet and greet with exhibitors.

“I think this is a great opportunity for all youth to see what opportunities are available to them. Not only is this valuable to youth, but to employers as well. This is an opportunity for employers to see that youth want to contribute to society and want to be active participants. It also helps accomplish Bloorview’s goal,” said Crystal Chin, volunteer for the Youth Advisory Council.

The event was presented by Mazemaster-Youth@bilities, the Scarborough Centre for Employment Accessibility and Bloorview.

“This is a great event because it’s an opportunity for employers and job-seekers to come together and engage in dialogue. The event promotes positive attitude and self-esteem by showcasing the various opportunities that are available,” said Ashima Suri, one of the events organizers from Mazemaster-Youth@bilities.
