Stories: The love of music bridges differences

Ken Rojas, a.k.a. “DJ RO” doesn’t let a visual impairment stop him from spinning awesome tunes.

Ken is a dynamic, 24-year-old studying radio broadcasting at Seneca College and the official DJ for our Youth Drop In Dances.

DJ RO not only wowed the young people at the dance with his musical ability, but he also impressed the Long & McQuade equipment technician, who made sure DJ RO was able to navigate the equipment easily.

Recognizing DJ RO’s musical talent, the technician went out of his way to make the set up as accessible as possible.

The CD mixer had tactile cues and the technician verbally explained the stage set-up to Ken and even came back early to see DJ RO in action.

In fact, the technician was so impressed with DJ RO, he offered to hand business cards to drum up future DJ’ing opportunities!

This chance meeting and a shared love of music made for a very fun and successful night!
