Pediatric Rehabilitation Engineering: From Disability to Possibility

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and the Bloorview Research Institute are pleased to announce the publication of a new book, co-edited by Holland Bloorview Senior Scientist, Tom Chau. Pediatric Rehabilitation Engineering: From Disability to Possibility is the first compendium of work with a specific focus on children in the field of rehabilitation engineering. Published by Taylor & Francis Group, CRC Press, a leading publisher of professional reference books and journals in the specialist areas of science, engineering and medicine, this book is also the very first in a new CRC Press series on Rehabilitation Science in Practice.

Pediatric Rehabilitation Engineering: From Disability to Possibility was created with contributions from experts around the world, including Italy, Israel, China, the US and Canada. “The book is really the product of an international blue chip cast of authors,” says Dr. Chau.

Among this blue chip cast, Holland Bloorview contributors - past and present - take centre stage, including Elaine Biddiss, Jan Andrysek, Gail Teachman, and Cynthia Tam. Jillian Fairley, co-editor with Tom Chau, was a former student in Dr. Chau’s lab.

“I am proud to see such a strong voice from Holland Bloorview in this first major work dedicated to pediatric rehabilitation engineering,” says Dr. Chau. “This is a first-class international resource that truly speaks to the growth and maturity of the field.”

Innovations in pediatric rehabilitation engineering can serve as a springboard to education, psychosocial, social, physical and cognitive development for children and youth with disabilities.
