Giving Back to Bloorview

My twin sister Sarah and I were born December 18th, 1992 in Oshawa, Ontario.  I was born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.  Three months later, I started attending Bloorview Kids Rehab, which was then called The Hugh MacMillan Centre.

Bloorview has always supported me and my family through my many surgeries and procedures.  Recently, I spent 10 months at the brand new facility in rehab to recover from surgery.

For a teenager, spending almost a year in hospital can be devastating.  But at Bloorview Kids Rehab, I was able to complete my grade 10 year, and I also got the opportunity to work with amazing therapists, volunteers and nurses.  I also met lots of amazing friends.

Many of my doctors thought I would never walk after my recent hip surgeries.  But with the help of Bloorview and my perseverance I am now walking and even skiing!!  I am thrilled that my Auntie Barb has chosen Bloorview Kids Foundation as her charity of choice for the Battle of the Blades.  It gives our family the opportunity to give back and help other children with disabilities.
