Ballerina Dreams

Samina

Like many other six-year-old girls, Samina loves ballet class. The only difference is she dances with braces on her legs and two canes at a ballet class for physically challenged girls.

That’s because Samina was born with cerebral palsy.

“When we got the diagnosis shortly after birth, we were obviously devastated and hurt,” says Samina’s dad Ali. “Then we came to Bloorview and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Bloorview helped us get back on our feet again.”

Born in Toronto, she attends grade one at Bloorview school. Her favourite shows are Dora the Explorer and Bob the Builder.

“Without Bloorview, I don’t know where we’d be,” says Ali. “Staff are so nice and helpful, they do whatever they possibly can do to help. It’s truly a great facility and we’re very lucky to have something like this in the city.”
