Ashleigh
A Gift That Lasts A Lifetime
“If it wasn’t for Bloorview Kids Rehab and all the services I received over the years, I can say for sure I don’t know where I’d be today,” says former Bloorview client and volunteer Ashleigh.
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as an infant, Ashleigh first came to Bloorview when she was 18 months old. Now 22 years later, she comes back to volunteer with the Youth Advisory Council and volunteer with inpatients.
Ashleigh recently graduated with a degree in psychology from York University and a certificate in rehabilitation services from Seneca College. She credits the gifted recreational therapists at Bloorview for helping shape her love of volunteering in the Child Life program and influencing her decision to obtain an ECE diploma, with the hopes of working with young children who have various special needs.
“Bloorview gives kids their life back and empowers children to do their best so they contribute to society,” says Ashleigh.
When asked what she’d say to Bloorview donors, Ashleigh says, “Thank you. You’ve made a good choice. I can assure you that your money is going to a good cause and is going to help children who will need the services at the centre.”
Ashleigh says she has no problems promoting Bloorview to other parents because it provides every treatment under the sun for children with special needs—all under one roof!
“I wish I could stay here forever,” says Ashleigh, “Instead, I’ll try work here as an adult.”
