Our Donors: A Family's Journey
Patricia, Christopher, Lauren and Tom Muir
Christopher Muir was diagnosed at the age of 18 months with a global developmental disability. Today, Christopher is a happy and thriving 22-year-old with special needs.

In the early years, Christopher’s language skills were severely delayed. His frustration with not being able to communicate his feelings and needs led to behavioural issues that put significant stress on his family.
Chris attended the highly acclaimed ‘Play & Learn’ nursery school program, run by the Hugh McMillan Children’s Centre, one of the predecessor organizations to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, and accessed a host of other specialized services and developmental programs at Hugh McMillan. The Muir family found tremendous support in a matrix of other community organizations, including specialized assessment and service providers, public schools, respite care organizations and government funding agencies.
In 2003, Tom was delighted to join the Board of Bloorview Kids Foundation, and become Vice-Chair of the $45 million Capital Campaign. He was Chair of the Foundation Board from 2007-2009. He currently remains on the Board, and is a Member of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital as well.

The family has supported many of the Foundation’s fund raising events over the years, including matching donations to the Hospital for the Goodlife Fitness Toronto Marathon in 2010, and in remembrance of Tom’s late brother, James, in 2012.
“Our family takes great pride in being part of Holland Bloorview, the leading organization in the world, providing services and programs to children with disabilities and their families,” says Tom Muir.
Now the Muir family is going the distance for Holland Bloorview through the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. The Muirs will match dollar for dollar* the funds raised by participants who are running or walking for Holland Bloorview through this event, held October 20, 2013.
To learn more, please visit the Holland Bloorview page on the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon website.
* To a maximum of $10,000.
