Bloorview Kids Rehab is Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital for children and youth with disabilities.  In addition to its comprehensive healthcare services, Bloorview offers therapeutic recreation programs, including sports and recreational camps such as sledge hockey training and wheelchair skills camps.  These camps encourage physical activity that provides innumerable therapeutic benefits and combats isolation by getting children involved in team sports.

“The kids on our team are very fortunate.  I want to instill the importance of giving back to their community by supporting the sledge hockey program at Bloorview Kids Rehab. I also wanted my team to be challenged and inspired by playing hockey in a sledge, to experience first hand how children with disabilities play hockey,” said Coach David Goldstein.

The Vaughan Rangers Novice White Select Hockey Team consists of 17

energetic 8 year-olds who were determined to raise money to help Bloorview’s therapeutic programs.  The players raised over $9,000 for Bloorview’s recreation program, which enables kids to participate in various camps and activities.

The team chose Bloorview as its charity of choice because sport and recreational camps have a positive impact on kids overall health and help build self-confidence, new skills and new friendships.  These camps ensure that children with disabilities increase their physical activity, interact with their peers and learn about themselves and their capabilities.

The event will start off with a skills competition from 1:30pm to 2:00pm.  The cheque presentation will take place at 2:00pm to 2:15pm.  Between 2:15pm- 3:00pm, the Vaughan Rangers Novice White Select Hockey Team and Bloorview’s Sledge Hockey team will mix their players together and play a game at Phil White Arena.

Media is welcome to attend.
