Chillin’ For Kids raised $93,998.00 for Bloorview!
A wild winter storm didn’t stop over 110 curling enthusiasts from attending the second annual Chillin’ For Kids event in support of Bloorview Kids Foundation.
The event was held at the Granite Club in Toronto and included a delicious dinner and outstanding silent auction. This year’s Chillin’ for Kids planning committee included: Linda Blair, David Cairns, Margaret Casoni, Theresa Cook, Michael Dilworth, Patti Dilworth, Denise Guerriere, Tom Kehoe, Stephen Nelson, Peter Ribeiro, Michael Taylor and Lora Valoppi. The committee members worked extremely hard and pulled off a fun and exciting event in addition to securing countless prizes from corporations and local businesses for the silent auction.
With one year of planning under their belt, the committee was able to rock last year’s total of $41,000. This year’s event helped raise an outstanding $93,998.00 for Bloorview. An outstanding and tremendous feat! The evening was emceed by CTV’s Pat Foran, while Vito Bigioni, a father who’s daughter Emily attends Bloorview’s Spiral Garden camps, provided the keynote speech. Vito provided a powerful speech on the impact these camps have on children with disabilities and their families.
Spiral Garden camps provide opportunities, in an integrated setting, for self-expression and social participation through the arts. It nurtures our relationship to nature and fosters an inclusive community that gives attention to the whole person. Spiral Garden is recognized as an international model for promoting healing in children, and has been exported to benefit children in Sri Lanka and Southern India. The attendees were so moved by Vito’s speech they helped raise almost $25,000 for Bloorview’s respite services. They also raised money for:
- A bronchoscope
- Eight "computers on wheels," and
- Significant funding for the Ventilator Fund
Thanks to the passion and energy of the committee this event helped raise awarness of the work Bloorview does while raising much-needed funds for programs and services that enable children with disabilities to achieve their personal best.
