The power of philanthropy is awe-inspiring.
Walking through Bloorview’s hallways, you can see it. It’s in every thoughtful detail of our accessible, light-filled and child-friendly facility, in the caring staff and, especially, in the lively faces of children. Children like 8-year-old Naz, who attends the Bloorview School.
Naz is a happy, caring little boy who loves to laugh. Naz has a spinal deformity which affects his ability to move his head and neck and use his arms and hands. Naz is bright and articulate, but his physical limitations make it difficult for him to use a pen or pencil. Without the help of Bloorview therapists and teachers, and Word Q, a specialized writing software developed at Bloorview, Naz would not be able to work at his grade level.
BMO Financial Group is one of the exceptional philanthropic partners who supports the urgent needs of the hospital, helping us transform the lives of kids like Naz. With a $450,000 gift during the capital campaign, BMO helped to make our dream of a new home a reality. With a further donation to outfit the BMO Financial Group School Library with state-of-the-art technology, BMO demonstrated their commitment to education for all children, including those with disabilities that make learning a challenge.
Last year BMO was the presenting sponsor for our gala fundraising celebration and dinner – An Evening of Possibility. Tom Flynn, BMO’s Chief Risk Officer, Vice-Chair Bloorview Kids Rehab and Gilles Ouellette, President and CEO of BMO’s Private Client Group, co-chaired this spectacular evening, which raised over $425,000 to support the treatments, technologies, therapies and real-world programs that are impacting children at home, across the country and around the world.
According to Mr. Ouellette, “BMO is proud of its strong partnership with Bloorview and believes its support will enrich the lives of children with disabilities and their families.”
Naz’s face lights up when he’s working on the school library computer. That’s the power of philanthropy.
