Up, Up & Away! 2009 - 2010 Report to Donors

Corporate and Leadership Gifts

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation would like to thank all corporate and leadership gift donors. Private support is critical to enabling kids with disabilities to live ordinary and sometimes extraordinary lives just like other kids. In 2009/2010, despite the global recession, Holland Bloorview benefited from many outstanding new contributions. Here are a few highlights:

We are so grateful to Ron (a past director) and his family for their generosity and leadership.

7. Jason and Heather Smith

As a family that has been touched directly by childhood illness, Jason and Heather know firsthand the value of a place like Holland Bloorview. As an entrepreneur in the midst of building a successful business, Jason donated 150,000 shares of his company to Holland Bloorview. Now a member of the Foundation Board, Jason and his family also chaired “Kasting for Kids Rehab”, a flying fishing event, which raised more than $130,000 in its inaugural year. Is fly fishing really the “new golf”?

8. J.P. Bickell

The J.P. Bickell Foundation recently donated $25,000 to Holland Bloorview’s Interprofessional Education Program. This program trains doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers, psychologists, engineers, artists and even clowns in collaboration in order to provide kids with the best comprehensive care. This unique approach enables Holland Bloorview to be the premier training ground for childhood disability experts. Since 1979, J.P. Bickell Foundation has donated over $178,000 to Holland Bloorview.

9. The Steele Family

Barbara Steele is a past Chair & President of the Board of Bloorview Childrens Hospital, and its Foundation board. Reflecting her passion for children with special needs and honouring her years of service, her children have established two important funds: The Barbara L. Steele Childhood Disability Fund for Research & Innovation, and The Barbara L. Steele Childhood Disability Fund for Education & Training. The Steele Family has generously contributed more than $775,000 to Holland Bloorview.

10. Peter and Catherine Clark

Since 1995, Peter and Catherine Clark have been loyal Holland Bloorview donors. They have donated over $38,000 to help kids with disabilities achieve their personal best.

11. Peter and Brigitte Anderson

Peter and Brigitte Anderson have generously contributed $100,000 to establish The Peter and Brigitte Anderson Childhood Disability Fund. This fund helps support and sustain priority projects so Holland Bloorview can push beyond the traditional boundaries of healthcare.

12. The Bridle Bash Foundation

A collection of our neighbours in the Bridle Path area of Toronto have been getting together for years to celebrate their friendships and to support good causes. The Bridle Bash Foundation’s 2009 event raised more than $10,000 in support of Dr. Chau’s Lab at Holland Bloorview. Their mission is to provide financial support to charities focused on health research, treatment and support for adults and children.
