About Us

Policies & Practices: Safety and Security

Cell Phone Policy
Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital insists upon limited use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices in our building. Cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and walkie-talkies are not permitted, except for emergency purposes, in client rooms on 3 East and in the Bloorview School due to the potential interference they may cause with medical equipment.

Since protecting the privacy and safety of our staff and clients is fundamental, these devices are also not permitted in change rooms, locker rooms, treatment rooms, washrooms, and on or near the pool decks. This is to prevent people from taking pictures using the camera function that some of these devices have. In fact, no photographs can be taken anywhere within the Holland Bloorview facility without explicit official permission and signed consent forms from anyone in the photos.

Otherwise, we request discretionary use of cell phones and PDAs throughout the remainder of the building.

Fragrance Free Policy
Strong scented products such as perfume, hairspray, cologne and aftershave can cause or trigger health issues. In consideration for others, we request that you and your visitors do not wear scents when coming to Holland Bloorview.

Fire
At Holland Bloorview we take the safety of our clients, staff and visitors very seriously. Staff are trained regularly to follow fire procedures and the alarms are tested frequently.  Fire exits are clearly marked throughout Holland Bloorview. In the event of a fire, a staff person will tell you what to do.

Emergency Number

In the event of an emergency while you are at Holland Bloorview, call Holland Bloorview’s security hotline at ext. 5555 and state the nature of the emergency and your location so that help can be sent to you quickly.

Photo I.D.

All Holland Bloorview employees are required to wear photo identification badges that include their name and title. You are entitled to know who is providing services to you at all times. If you are ever not sure who is working with you, ask to see his or her identification badge.

Smoking Policy

Holland Bloorview is a non-smoking environment.  To accommodate visitors who wish to smoke, a smoking hut is located outside west of the building beside the parking lot.
Smoking by minors (clients under 19 years old) is strictly prohibited. Anyone supplying cigarettes to a minor is in violation of the Smoke Free Ontario Act. Permission to smoke by a parent or guardian does not override this policy.

Balloons

Allergic reactions to latex has become a serious health problem for clients and individuals that work in health-care facilities. Please do not bring latex balloons or other latex products into Holland Bloorview.
