Wally Clayson – Philanthropy – 2005

Wally Clayson’s association with Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Centre began in 1984 when his beloved granddaughter, Jennifer, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. He quickly recognized the importance of financially supporting the organization when he saw Jennifer – and many other children with disabilities – make incredible strides.

Owner of Clayson’s Service Centre, Wally began his fundraising efforts by donating the proceeds from the service centre’s tire machine to Bloorview MacMillan.

In 1994, as president of the Automotive Aftermarket Retailers of Ontario (AARO), Wally created an industry golf tournament.  Since then, his boundless energy and dedication have guided the annual fundraising event and it has become a major donor to Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Foundation.

Now in its 13th year, the AARO event has raised more than $170,000 towards a $250,000 pledge to the capital campaign for Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Centre. Their contribution will take physical shape as the AARO Therapeutic Gymnasium in the new facility.

For Wally, fundraising is about the real difference that individuals can make in the lives of others. Wally’s energy in making AARO a leading donor in Bloorview MacMillan’s capital campaign will help enable children and youth with disabilities to continue to achieve their personal best for many years to come.
