Vivien Harris – Service - 2002

Family-centred care is the core value of Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Centre.  It is also at the heart of Vivien’s approach in her role as co-ordinator of the neuromuscular team. Referred to as a tower of strength, Vivien makes herself available to the many clients and families who are struggling with difficult treatment decisions. Families value her opinions and advice.

A registered nurse, Vivien is committed to advancing the role of nursing in the pediatric rehabilitation setting. Vivien counsels families through difficult choices, such as a client’s need for ventilation.

Vivien’s vast knowledge of neuromuscular disorders and the ability to effectively communicate at different levels has earned her the respect of medical professionals, pediatric residents, nursing students, clients and families. Vivien’s participation in research initiatives, particularly relating to deflazacort and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, makes her a valued resource and a strong link with the Hospital for Sick Children and the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.
