Lynne Balfour – Service – 2002

Advocate. Leader. Innovator. Each of these words has been used to describe Lynne during her career. She quickly recognized the importance of technology to enable young people with disabilities to achieve their goals. It is with this passion that Lynne established the various initiatives related to technology such as the seating clinic and the writing-aids clinic.

In her present role as director of the communication and writing-aids service, Lynne successfully merged two very different programs and changed the model of service-delivery.

As an advocate, Lynne successfully lobbied the Assistive Devices Program of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to change the mandate of funding support for clients and families using technology. She also established the supportive computer purchase program.

Over the years, Lynne’s leadership in technology application has been recognized by many. Rather than taking the credit for herself, Lynne reflects it back to her team and to the clients and families she serves.
