Awards: 2000 Circle of Honour Recipients

James Duncan – Philanthropy – 2000

Vice-President, Canaccord Capital Corporation
Trustee, Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Foundation

For the past four years, James has been the driving force behind the annual Bay Street Brokers Softball Challenge. Each year, the event attracts more front-line brokers from Bay Street in Toronto and Wall Street in New York. In 1997, seven Toronto teams and one U.S. team played, raising $80,000 for Bloorview MacMillan Centre. This year, 20 teams from both sides of the border are expected to participate and raise more than $200,000. This is an exceptional achievement for a special event virtually organized by one person – particularly in such a short time.

In addition to his stewardship of the Softball Challenge, James became a trustee of Bloorview MacMillan Children’s Foundation in 1998. This further demonstrates his commitment to ensuring that kids with disabilities get the resources they need to achieve their personal best.

James, along with his wife, Cheryl, is a parent of five daughters: quadruplets Alexandra, Lindsay, Stephanie and Riley, age 6; and Jennifer, age 4. Lindsay benefits from the programs and services, including the school, at Bloorview MacMillan Centre.
