Carol Thompson – Education - 2001

Leadership is a hallmark of Carol’s 14 years’ experience at Bloorview MacMillan. As nursing education coordinator for the 24-hour client care service, Carol has excelled by coordinating the design, implementation and evaluation of a three-day intensive pediatric rehabilitation course for Bloorview MacMillan nurses. This course, the first of its kind in Canada, has been extremely well received and is supporting nurses in providing rehabilitation care to children and their families. Carol has also been instrumental in establishing Bloorview MacMillan’s palliative care service and is currently the palliative care coordinator.  She is also project manager for the nursing workload-measurement system.

As an educator, Carol consistently demonstrates the ability to dissect a nursing issue and reflect it to her colleagues in ways that are fresh, interesting and stimulating. Her depth of analyses and the capacity with which she integrates theoretical concepts to guide her practice are impressive.

Carol’s commitment to best practices recently resulted in her leading an initiative to develop and implement wound standards at Bloorview MacMillan. This subsequently led to the coordination of a conference entitled “The Art and Science of Preventative Skin Care and Wound Management in Pediatrics,” which attracted many experts in the field.
