Dr. Ron Laxer

Ron Laxer

Dr. Laxer joined The Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto after studying at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and McGill University in the early eighties.  Completing a Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of British Columbia led to Dr. Laxer becoming the Head of the Division of Rheumatology at U of T until becoming Associate Chief and Vice-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and in 2002 he became Vice-President, Clinical and Academic Affairs at SickKids, a post he held until 2009 when he returned to the Division of Rheumatology as a Staff Rheumatologist. He is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Toronto. 

Dr. Laxer has published widely in many areas of rheumatology, and his description of the Camptodactyly-Arthropathy-Pericarditis Syndrome helped to ultimately identify the genetic mutation.

He has received numerous awards, including awards for teaching and clinical excellence from the University of Toronto, the Humanitarian Award from The Hospital for Sick Children, the Council Award from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Distinguished Clinical Scholar Award from the American College of Rheumatology and the James T. Cassidy Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
