Dr. Laxer joined The Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto after studying at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and McGill University in the early eighties. Completing a Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of British Columbia led to Dr. Laxer becoming the Head of the Division of Rheumatology at U of T until becoming Associate Chief and Vice-Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and in 2002 he became Vice-President, Clinical and Academic Affairs at SickKids, a post he held until 2009 when he returned to the Division of Rheumatology as a Staff Rheumatologist. He is a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Laxer has published widely in many areas of rheumatology, and his description of the Camptodactyly-Arthropathy-Pericarditis Syndrome helped to ultimately identify the genetic mutation.
