Sheila K. Jarvis is President and CEO of Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital―Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation facility, academically fully-affiliated with the University of Toronto.
Before joining Holland Bloorview in 1996,
Ms. Jarvis was Vice-President, Programs and Services, at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. She has also served in senior administrative positions at other academic hospitals in Toronto.
Currently, she is Chair of the Board of Directors of The Change Foundation, an independent health policy think tank with a mandate to promote, support, and improve health and the delivery of health care in Ontario. Sheila is past-Chair of their Governance Committee.
She is Past-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA). In her role as Chair of the Board of Directors, OHA, Ms. Jarvis led the development of a strategy to improve the quality of hospital governance in Ontario though the creation of the Governance Leadership Council of the OHA.
She is Past-Chair and current member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN), and member of the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO). Sheila is a member of the Sounding Board of the Toronto Central LHIN, and a member of the Executive Council of the Joint Centre for Bioethics, University of Toronto.
In support of her ongoing interest in excellence in governance, Ms. Jarvis participated in the Harvard Business School Executive Education Program on Making Corporate Boards More Effective, in 2009.
Sheila is the recipient of an honorary diploma in Community and Health Studies from Ontario’s Niagara College, one of Ontario’s premier post-secondary educational institutions.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Jarvis served on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, serving as Chair of the Board, and Treasurer.
Ms. Jarvis holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Toronto and a Master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Alberta. She was awarded the Certified Health Executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Service Executives.
Ms. Jarvis represented the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario (CAHO) on the Premier’s Ontario Trade and Investment Mission to China in 2005. She has made follow-up visits to China in 2006 and 2009 on behalf of CAHO, funded by the Ministry of Research and Innovation, to initiate collaborative health sciences research between scientists in Ontario and China.
