A one-of-a-kind training ground
The challenge: Bloorview has pockets of excellence in training student doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers and rehab engineers. But we’d like to elevate education for trainees and staff across the organization.
The solution: Goals of a new five-year strategic plan are to create a Teaching and Learning Institute to share childhood disability expertise internationally; use innovative teaching methods such as our new clinical simulation lab; build our expertise in interprofessional education; extend teaching and learning to families; develop staff as educators; and grow our training capacity.
First step: Develop a Teaching and Learning Council composed of education experts within Bloorview and among our Toronto teaching hospital partners to provide high-level oversight of our education agenda and move it forward.
Long-term impact: Attract stellar trainees; develop pediatric rehab leaders so children receive the best clinical care worldwide; and retain top-notch staff.
